What to Wear
The wedding day is one of the most exciting days in a couple’s life,
but it can also be stressful. The bride and groom have to decide what to wear.
Queen
Victoria of England started the tradition of wearing a white dress more than 170 years ago. She
wasn’t the first to wear a white wedding dress, but she made it more popular than the typical
red dress of the time.
While wearing white is traditional in most English-speaking countries,
in Ireland the bride should wear blue because it is considered good luck. In Scotland it’s
often the men who wear more colourful clothes called ‘kilts’, which are worn to represent
their family. Some of the most common colours are red, blue and green.
Across the world,
weddings are a rainbow of colour. Chinese couples often choose red because it represents joy and
luck. In India red and white are worn because it’s believed that these colours bring wealth and
a large family. Weddings in Africa are colourful celebrations. Nigerian men and women wear bright
clothes called aso-ebi, meaning ‘family cloth.’ In Morocco the tradition is to
wear yellow and green. There, yellow warns away evil spirits, and green brings good luck.
From white to red and all the colours of the rainbow in between, couples all over the world
choose different but colourful clothes for their wedding day.

getting up in the morning is difficult; they feel tired, they move slowly, and they act like zombies.
At school they often fall asleep. This makes the teachers angry and the teens
embarrassed.
According to scientists, adolescents need eight to ten hours of sleep every night
to feel rested and perform effectively. But getting enough sleep isn’t easy for adolescents.
Their body clocks are changing, which affects their natural sleep cycle. They usually stay up late at
night. In the morning, they have to get up early to go to school. As a result, they rarely get a good
night’s sleep.
What can schools do to help? A school in London, England, changed the
schedule for 16–18-year-olds. Students started and finished the school day an hour later than
before. As a result, students slept more and got better grades. More sleep made students more
sociable and more confident. They even enjoyed going to school.
Researchers from Oxford
University will conduct a Teensleep Study with a hundred schools across Britain. In the study,
teenagers will start school later, have classes about sleep, and learn how some changes in their
bedrooms can improve their sleep. So, who knows? After the results of this study, students might go
from being zombies to being model students!

Imagine a world where you can’t see or hear anything. It’s
difficult to imagine, isn’t it? Edi Haug is one of many young people around the world who are
deaf-blind. Edi lost his ability to see and hear when he was young. As a child, Edi communicated with
a made-up language using touch. He is older now, and he communicates in Lorm. It’s a sign
language. It uses different locations on the hand for the letters of the alphabet. It isn’t
easy for Edi to make friends because few people know Lorm. Today friendship is mostly made through
social media, not touch.
However, the Mobile Lorm Glove might help young people like Edi. It
was invented by Tom Bieling in Germany. Tom hopes his machine can improve the lives of deaf-blind
people by giving them easy access to the Internet. Edi touches different parts of the glove to write
his message to his computer. The glove can also send messages to him. Edi now has a lot of friends on
social media who don’t even know he is deaf-blind. With more work, Tom hopes anyone can use his
machine; for example, those who work in noisy locations, not just deaf-blind people.

Goddio’s Discovery
In 2000 underwater archaeologist Dr. Franck Goddio set off on an
expedition. He was looking for shipwrecks off the coast of Egypt, near Alexandria. In his attempt to
find shipwrecks, he discovered something much more important– remains of the lost city of
Heracleion.
Until this discovery, many people didn’t
believe the city existed at all. Yet Dr. Franck Goddio’s expedition found ships, gold coins,
statues, stone carvings, and even a temple that disappeared 1,200 years ago.
Also, the many underwater canals at the site proved that the city
used to be a very important place for trade. Experts think that Heracleion used to control all the
shipping through Egypt.
Archaeologists still have to
examine a lot more of the city. They hope this will help them find out how the average residents of
Heracleion used to live.

Remarkable Water Creatures Animals come in all shapes and
sizes. Those that live in or near water make up some of the most remarkable creatures. Here are three
of them:
Mudskipper fish The mudskipper is one of the few fish that thrives out of
water. They spend most of their time in mud. They have adapted their fins so they can walk, jump, and
climb trees. Mudskipper fish breathe oxygen through water that they store in their mouth and skin so
they can live out of the water. They’re quite athletic out of the water. To attract a female,
the male can jump as high as 50 cm. (20 in.).
Basilisk lizard The basilisk lizard
typically lives in trees near water. When a snake or bird tries to kill it, the basilisk drops from
the tree into the water and runs away. It can run on the water’s surface at a speed of 1.5 m.
(5 ft.) per second.
Horned frog Horned frogs live in rivers and ponds in the rain
forests. The frog gets its name from its appearance. The position of its eyes makes it look like it
has horns. This, however, isn’t its most remarkable feature. Its sticky tongue is. When small
animals get too close, the horned frog shoots out its sticky tongue to catch them. Once caught, the
frog can lift animals heavier than itself with just its tongue.
